Illness Management At Aisha's Child Care
Importance of Understanding Illness
Infants immune system is very small. so they can get sick easily. Our illness management protocols are designed to create a safe and healthy environment for everyone. In my child care centre, educators have high knowlage how to stop germs from spreading through hands, toy bottles. We understand that illness can be a concern for parents, and we strive to address those concerns with clear policies and proactive measures.
Healthy Foundation in Early Childhood Setting (7th ed.), says, to control spreading infection is part of daily routines and the best way to stop illness is washing hands often.
ECE educators must wash their hands often, before and after touching babies. Daily cleaning bottles, toys that go to babies mouths and pacifiers have to cleaned consistently. Also separating children who show signs of illness to prevent outbreaks (Toronto Public Health, n.d.).
Supervision for early signs of illness like fever, rashes, and vomiting etc. is very important to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Toronto Public Healthy support for Illness Management
Toronto Public Healthy (TPH) support childcare centre by teaching staff how to prevent and manage illness.
According to TPH (2024) an outbreak occurs when tow or more children experience the same illness within 24 hours.
During an outbreak, educators must separate immediately when they observe the sick child, contact the sick child's parents, record
the illness on an Outbreak Reporting Form, inform TPH for cleaning directions and continue monitoring children's healthy daily.
Two important documents that help manage infant health are the Daily Health Check Form, which is used each morning to note any signs
of sickness before entry and the Illness Long Sheet, which records children who are sent home or absent due to illness.
These forms follow TPH guidelines and CCEYA Regulation, and we ensure that all illness information is properly documented and communicated with families.

Addressing Your Concerns
We know parents worry about the spread of germs and the potential for their child to get sick. At Aisha's Child Care, we address these concerns by:
- Implementing rigorous cleaning and sanitizing protocols throughout the day.
- Maintaining a low child-to-staff ratio to ensure close supervision and prompt response to any signs of illness.
- Requiring sick children to stay home to prevent the spread of infection.
- Providing a dedicated isolation area for children who become ill during the day, where they can be comfortable and closely monitored until a parent arrives.
